The "40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Big Short" star was spotted shopping alone at The Shops at Chestnut Hill on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 25. He filmed the movie "The Way, Way Back" in Newton in 2013.
The Oscar and Emmy-nominated actor grew up in nearby Acton. And he often spends time in Marshfield Hills, where he owns a summer home and a general store. His sister-in-law Tish Vivado runs the business and fields questions daily from fans who wonder if he's in, she told The Patriot Ledger in 2011. Carell occasionally drops by when he's in town, she said.
Carell told the newspaper that he wanted to preserve the history of the store, which first opened in 1853.
“The main impetus to keep it going is that not many of those places exist, and I wanted this one to stay afloat,” the 60-year-old said. “Just generally speaking, there are not that many local sort of communal places as there used to be. So much interaction has now become over the Internet that I think it’s nice for people to actually go and talk and have a cup of coffee and communicate with one another. It sounds very old school, but it is important to me.”
Carell currently stars in Hulu's thriller series "The Patient" alongside Domhnall Gleeson.
